Frequently Asked Questions

How long do chemical peels last?

A light, or superficial, peel produces results that usually last between one and two months. A medium peel's results will last between two and six months, and the results of a deep peel last forever.

Can you see results after one treatment?

It usually takes several treatment sessions to see the desired outcomes. Most people notice some improvement after their first chemical peel, but with multiple treatments over the span of several months, patients will be astonished by how much better their skin looks.

How often should I get a chemical peel?

The chemical peel you select as well as your desired results will dictate how often you should receive this treatment. In some cases, it may make sense to receive a light - medium chemical peel every two to five weeks.

What age should I start getting chemical peels?

When it comes to chemical peels, you can start getting them in your late teens and twenties in order to treat acne, acne scarring, and early signs of sun damage.

When will my skin start to peel?

Peeling will generally start 48-72 hours after your treatment and can last 2-5 days. It is very important not to pick off peeling skin; peeling is minimal and easily controlled with moisturizer. Premature peeling of the skin will result in dry, cracked, raw skin that may develop into hyperpigmentation.

How can I prepare for my chemical peel?

Don’t exfoliate. Since a chemical peel is an in-depth exfoliation, it’s important that you don’t exfoliate for at least 1 week before your appointment. In addition, watch out for ingredients in your daily skin care products that may have an exfoliating effect. If you use such products prior to your treatment, you could cause damage to your skin.

Refrain from using make-up. You want as little dirt on your face as possible before your peel, so take a break from wearing makeup for a few days before your treatment and let your skin detox!

Avoid the sun. Most chemical peels respond better to skin that isn’t skin-damaged, so make an effort to avoid the sun as much as possible prior to your treatment, and if you are outside, make sure to wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunblock (at least SPF 30).

Stay hydrated. Your skin should be well-hydrated on the day of your chemical peel. Make sure you stop using any products that dry out your skin a few days prior to your appointment, and remember to drink lots of water.
